Local & European Elections 2009 - Are you registered to vote?
In June 2009 you will have the opportunity to vote in the local and European elections. In order to cast your vote however, you must first ensure that you are registered to do so. This means that your name must be entered on the Register of Electors for the locality in which you live.
Who can vote?
The following have the right to vote in Ireland:
- Irish citizens aged 18 and upwards may vote at every election and referendum
- British citizens may vote at Dáil, European and local elections
- Other EU citizens may vote at European and local elections
- Non-EU citizens may vote at local elections only
Remember even though you may not be an Irish Citizen you may have a right to vote in the Local and European elections. So if you are a migrant living in Ireland be sure to cast your vote - it could make all the difference!
The Register of Electors
In order to cast your vote you must be registered on your local Register of Electors. Remember if you are not registered you cannot vote!
